Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, have apprehended 46 suspected illegal immigrants in Ogun State during a targeted operation based on intelligence.
According to a statement issued by Major Idereghi Samuel Akari, Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 35 Artillery Brigade, the operation began on 11 June 2026 and was conducted in conjunction with the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
The statement said the arrests were made at various locations, including Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese, and surrounding communities within Ogun State. The operation followed actionable intelligence on the presence of individuals suspected to be residing in the area without valid immigration documentation.
Preliminary findings indicated that the suspects had allegedly been living in the state for approximately six months prior to their arrest.
During interrogation, the individuals reportedly stated that they were merchants and workers affiliated with QNet, an online marketing platform involved in the sale of various commodities.
The breakdown of those arrested shows that 18 are nationals of Burkina Faso, 23 from Côte d’Ivoire, four from Togo, and one from Senegal. The group comprises 36 males and 10 females.
Authorities confirmed that all 46 suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service, Ogun State Command, for further investigation and administrative procedures in line with existing laws.
Speaking on the operation, the Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Friday Oguche Onu, commended the troops and other participating security agencies for their conduct during the exercise. He described the operation as a reflection of coordinated efforts among security institutions.
He also called on residents of the state to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to relevant authorities.
The statement noted that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to address illegal migration and strengthen internal security.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing as security agencies continue coordinated actions aimed at safeguarding national security and enforcing immigration regulations.
