Abuja — Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, Founder and General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry (Deeper Life Bible Church), has firmly debunked rumours of succession plans involving his biological sons, declaring that he will not hand over the church to any of them.
Speaking during a recent Bible study session with pastors and leaders, Kumuyi addressed growing speculations about the future leadership of the church he founded over four decades ago.
“I will not hand over the church to any of my sons,” the 85-year-old cleric stated emphatically. He stressed that the church belongs to God and not to any individual or family.
The respected preacher drew a biblical parallel with the Apostle Peter, noting that Peter did not hand over the early church to his biological son. He warned against subtle agitations and pressure regarding succession, saying no one can control or force him into such a decision.
“The perfect will of God will be done,” he added.
Pastor Kumuyi, who has built one of Nigeria’s largest and most disciplined Pentecostal churches known for its emphasis on holiness, strict doctrine, and global outreach, has two sons — John and Jerry Kumuyi — from his late first wife, Abiodun.
His remarks come amid growing discussions about leadership transition in many large Nigerian churches, as several prominent founders approach advanced age.
Deeper Life Bible Church, which started as a Bible study group in the 1970s, has grown into a global ministry with millions of members worldwide. Kumuyi continues to lead the church actively and also convokes the Global Crusade with Kumuyi (GCK).
This latest clarification is expected to put to rest rumours that had been circulating in church circles and on social media.
