Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday expressed excitement over the near completion of several key infrastructure projects across Abuja, declaring that many of them were ready for commissioning.
Wike, who spoke during an inspection tour of ongoing projects in the nation’s capital, said the level of work done by contractors showed that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was yielding visible results in the FCT.
“I think today is one of the happiest days. The projects we inspected, obviously, are ready for inauguration,” the minister said.
First on the minister’s inspection list was the Renewed Hope City project in Karsana, which he said was already about 98 per cent completed.
Wike praised Lubriks Construction Company for delivering quality work and keeping to schedule.
He also inspected the Old Keffi Road and Dei-Dei road projects, where he noted that asphalt work had almost been completed, while installation of streetlights was ongoing.
“That one too is ready for commissioning,” he stated.
At the Airport Road-Kuje Road project being handled by Arab Contractors, Wike described the road as a “fantastic job,” saying it would boost movement and economic activities within the area.
“I’m sure anybody who goes there will admire it and that is what governance is all about. We are very proud of the contractors and what they have done,” he said.
The minister also visited the Kuje-Gwagwalada road project being executed by Gilmor Engineering Limited, where he applauded the quality of work and said infrastructure development had transformed the entire landscape of Kuje.
“You can see how infrastructure has changed the entire landscape of the Kuje area,” he added.
Wike later inspected the City Gate project being handled by Julius Berger and described it as a major facelift for Abuja.
He said the project, initiated by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, would give visitors a befitting first impression of the nation’s capital, especially at night.
“When you have a good woman who means well for the administration of her husband, I’m talking about the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, this is her brainchild,” Wike said.
He commended the contractor for keeping to the delivery timeline, expressing confidence that Abuja residents would soon enjoy a new night-time outlook at the city entrance.
“Anybody who passes here in the night will see a different city when they are coming in. They will know they are coming to the capital of Nigeria,” he said.
