ABUJA — Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Friday gave a strong nod to the quality of ongoing road projects in Abuja, revealing that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will soon commission key infrastructure as part of his third anniversary in office.
Speaking during an inspection tour across the capital city, Wike said the administration is leaving nothing to chance in delivering top-notch infrastructure.
“We don’t sit in the office and rely on reports. We go out to see things ourselves and ensure contractors meet expected standards,” he said.
The minister expressed satisfaction with progress on major roads, particularly in Mabushi and along the N1 corridor, noting that work has reached advanced stages.
“In Mabushi, they are already asphalting. That is one of the roads the President will inaugurate,” he disclosed.
He also pointed to the ongoing airport road to Kuje as a critical project lined up for commissioning, while assuring that others nearing completion would be delivered before year-end.
Wike insisted that quality remains non-negotiable, stressing that Abuja must reflect Nigeria’s true image.
“You can see the standard of work and the happiness of the people. The FCT is the face of Nigeria, and it must meet global expectations,” he said.
He commended contractors for keeping to their promises and assured them of government’s continued support, especially in timely payment to sustain project delivery.
On transportation, the minister announced that Abuja’s long-awaited bus terminals will soon become operational following approval by the Federal Executive Council.
“In the next two to three weeks, operations will begin. The approval has been secured,” he said.
Wike reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to fast-track development across the FCT, noting that ongoing projects would greatly improve movement and living standards for residents.
