President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally accepted his nomination as the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, pledging to consolidate ongoing reforms and place Nigeria on a path of sustained growth and stability.
In his nomination acceptance speech, Tinubu expressed gratitude to party leaders, stakeholders, and Nigerians for their continued support, describing the moment as a milestone in the country’s democratic journey.
“I accept, with humility and profound gratitude, the nomination of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, to stand again as its Presidential candidate in the 2027 election,” Tinubu said.
Reflecting on his administration’s performance since assuming office, the President highlighted key achievements in economic reforms, infrastructure development, education financing, and power sector improvements.
He noted that the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund has disbursed over N282 billion to more than 1.5 million beneficiaries, while the Presidential Metering Initiative has delivered 2.5 million electricity meters to address estimated billing challenges.
Tinubu also pointed to reforms in the oil and gas sector, improved revenue generation, and stabilisation efforts in the foreign exchange market as part of measures aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s economic outlook.
According to him, the administration has prioritised infrastructure across transportation, energy, housing, and digital connectivity, with major projects such as coastal highways and the Sokoto-Badagry route underway.
On security, the President acknowledged ongoing challenges but assured Nigerians of intensified efforts to safeguard lives and property through enhanced intelligence, modern equipment, and stronger collaboration with communities.
“I assure you that I take seriously the responsibility to safeguard the lives and property of every Nigerian,” he said, while also calling for constitutional amendments to allow the establishment of state police.
Tinubu admitted that economic reforms have brought short-term hardships, including rising costs of living, but emphasised that such measures are necessary for long-term stability and growth.
“We do not dismiss these concerns; we understand them and govern not in comfort, but in reality—with honesty and action,” he stated.
The President called for national unity and political inclusiveness, extending a hand of partnership to opponents and urging Nigerians to work collectively toward nation-building.
He added that the 2027 election should reflect Nigeria’s democratic maturity and not merely a contest for power.
“With another four years of disciplined focus and national cooperation, we will firmly place Nigeria on an irreversible path of economic expansion, industrialisation, energy security, and democratic consolidation,” Tinubu said.
The speech, signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, underscores his commitment to building a more inclusive, secure, and prosperous Nigeria if re-elected.
