ABUJA — FCT Minister and PDP power broker, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has wrestled back control from forces he accused of killing internal democracy.
Wike made the explosive claim at the party’s National Convention held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, saying the PDP survived a near-collapse after a bitter leadership crisis.
“We fought and took back our party,” he said bluntly. “We arrested it from the grip of those who do not believe in internal democracy.”
In a fiery address, Wike accused some former power players of pushing ethnic and regional divisions, insisting that loyal members stood their ground to save the party from disintegration.
The convention drew delegates from across the country, showcasing what party leaders described as a fresh wave of unity after months of infighting and defections.
Wike gave credit to grassroots supporters, saying they refused to abandon the PDP even as top politicians jumped ship.
“While opportunistic elites were moving from one party to another, our grassroots members stayed faithful,” he said.
He maintained that the party now truly belongs to its members again and vowed that the rebuilding process would be driven by inclusiveness and collective ownership.
With renewed confidence, Wike signaled that the PDP is ready to move past its crisis and reposition itself for the battles ahead.
